Travel day

Today is the day all the people (mostly students) who volunteered to help with the seismic acquisition will be traveling to Raleigh to join Dan, Hannah and me in the field. A quick look at the radar map of the central US suggests that today was the wrong day to fly, especially through DFW, as half of our volunteers are doing.

We brace ourselves and hope for the best. At 3AM I get the first text message from our other Hannah, who is traveling (or rather, NOT traveling) from Waco, TX. Flight canceled, trying to get on a later flight, maybe will get in tomorrow. By 11AM it is clear nobody from TX is going to be able to travel on time. Tropical storm Bill is comfortably swirling over Dallas with no intention to move north. In the afternoon I travel to Raleigh airport to start collecting our people. We expect 18 people to arrive today (see "Science Team"). After many delays, phone calls, changed reservations, canceled and diverted flights, 17 people make it to their room at the hotel in Greenville, NC. Hannah, traveling from Waco, will arrive tomorrow. That's also when we expect our seismic equipment to arrive and the real fun to begin!
